More than 250,000 people gathered on Brighton beach on July 2002 in what has been described as biggest event ever seen in Sussex. The crowd was more than four times larger than expected, amounted to twice the population of Brighton time. A year earlier, some 40,000 people attended first of the events at the Gran Boutique de la Playa. In 2002 Fatboy Slim, whose real name is Norman Cook, gave second of his free open-air concerts on Brighton beach to a record-breaking crowd.
